Preparation for an IELTS test required for university, private college, TAFE and secondary school entry, PLUS academic skills such as essay writing, library skills and oral presentation.IELTS is the most widely recognised English language test for entry to academic courses for overseas students.

Trained volunteers visit students who are unable to attend a centre in their homes to help with their English. The program is especially suitable for those without abackground in formal study and/or who are relatively "housebound", for instance because of childcare responsibilities.

This is a stand-alone course and is for those who do not wish to undertake tertiary studies. However, upon successful completion of the course you may proceed into an English for Academic Purposes program.

This course is designed to provide practice in the spoken and written skills needed to maximize effectiveness in leading or taking part in workplace meetings.

To provide English language training and preparation for the IELTS test

This course provides a framework and ample opportunity to practise public speaking in an English speaking context.

To develop the skills needed to write a wide range of letters and memos.

To improve ability to communicate in a business environment with colleagues, clients and customers.

The course aims to improve English pronunciation skills, paying particular attention to developing fluency and clarity. The emphasis is on practising listening and conversational skills.

Students follow an individual study program with teacher assistance at regional centres, using a range of self study material.

The course develops the skills to:> present data in written form> structure a report appropriately> select appropriate language for a formal writing style> use linguistic devices to link ideas and provide cohesion> identify and remedy weaknesses in grammar.

This course explores effective ways of using the voice to convey both information and attitude in English.

>Develops English language skills in a medical context. >Develops the skills and exam practice for students preparing to sit to for the Occupational English Test(OET) for overseas-trained health professionals.

This course provides a broad academic language foundation and introduces students to a range of academic texts, building on the skills base of the Certificate III course.

This course provides:> insights into the art of conversation> insights into the cultural role of conversation> practice in casual conversation.

This course explores the theory of negotiation and conflict resolution, as well as providing hands-on practice in one-to-one and group negotiation.

This course focuses on the language and interpersonal skills needed to provide a high quality service to both internal and external customers.

This course provides further skills development to Advanced levels in academic writing, listening, reading and speaking. Independent research skills are practised in seminar presentations and written reports. Students areprepared for the university or college environment, working individually and in groups.

This course provides frameworks and strategies for a range of workplace communication skills. It also examines cross-cultural issues which may affect the ability to speak with confidence.

To teach English to speakers of other languages.

This course concentrates on developing all 4 English language skills and provides students with information about community services and resources (eg. services, accommodation, transport, shopping, medical care).

This course develops English language proficiency in needs-based contexts which provide information on the Australian way of life and advice on accessing essential services(eg. employment, health services, shopping, educational options). All four skills are taught.

To develop language skills for employment and to assist learners to clarify work options in the current labour market context.

Begins to develop the skills necessary to undertake further professional studies to become a translator or interpreter. This is an introduction to the theory and practice in Australia but is not a preparation course for NAATI registration. This requires a considerably higher level of English.

Type:

To give absolute beginners the basic writing and speaking skills to be able to join beginners English classes.

A shorter general English language course (listening, speaking, reading and writing) for students who have limited English or who speak no English.

A learning activity for people who are unable to attend classes, for example, parents with childcare responsibilities, people restricted by work, or people who prefer to study at home. Distance Learning can be integrated with Multimedia centre learning, Home Tutor or community class provision. Regular phone, email and fax contact with a teacher provides support and feedback.

AMEP courses offer up to 510 hours of English language training to recent arrivals, leading to the outcomes of the Certificate of Spoken and Written English levels 1, 2 and 3 where appropriate. This competency based course aims to develop proficiency in listening,speaking, reading and writing.
