National Model UN
The United Nations Department of Public Information jointly with the American University of Armenia is organizing a four-day National Model UN (NMUN) conference bringing together university and high school students between the ages of 16 and 25 as an educational initiative marking the 70th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE UNITED NATIONS.
Topic and format
The focus of the conference will be on SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS, simulating a GENERAL ASSEMBLY session with three of its committees or three parallel thematic conferences or working groups.
Date and Venues
The conference will be held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia (to be confirmed), two working days at the American University of Armenia, and the closing session at the UN House in Yerevan.
Trainings will be held at participating universities. To promote the educational process of the students, the conference will take place in English, which is one of the official languages of the UN.
Students who demonstrate active and effective participation will be awarded with prizes. The conference will feature a cultural program as well, in which delegates will represent the culture of their countries.
The main criteria for participation are:
• Good command of the English language
• Strong motivation and awareness of the world of international affairs
• Previous experience (model UN, OSCE, EU, etc.)
The application form consists of:
• Personal data
• An essay of 400-500 words on your vision of the United Nations in the world today
Selection process:
Applicants will be selected based on the strength of their application. Allowance will also be made to maintain gender balance and the accommodation of participants from all universities and schools.
Short-listed candidates might be invited to interviews to ease the process of selection.
Prior to the conference, the selected participants will attend several preparatory trainings. The sessions will be focused on communication and presentation skills, public speaking and negotiation, Model UN rules of procedure, etc. Thematic presentations will also be given by experts from various UN agencies.

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. The participants role-play as diplomats representing a UN Member State in a simulated session of the United Nations. Participants do research about assigned country and topic, take on roles as diplomats, debate international issues, negotiate, deliberate, consult, and then develop joint solutions to world and regional problems.
