The British Embassy in Yerevan within the framework of the Europe Day 2015 is kindly inviting you to Embassy to take part in a "Liberty Matters" discussion and short film screening to mark 800th anniversary of Magna Carta the Great Charter.

After the film screening the UK Ambassador Kathy Leach will discuss with you what Magna Carta is, why it has appealed to so many people over the years, the impact it has had on the development of Anglo-American legal and political institutions, and its relevance for us today.

“Vaspurakan” Compatriots’ Union, the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of National Academy of Sciences, Armenia, in collaboration with the Institute of History and the Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA are organizing an International Conference dedicated to the Centennial of Van heroic defense, as well as to the 2870th anniversary of the first record about Van city.

As is known, the Armenian Genocide was accompanied not only by enormous massacres but by self-defense battles as well. The self-defense of Van (by old calendar: April 7 – May 3, 1915) ended in victory. The power, created later at the head of Aram Manukyan, and in 1917-1918 – by Kosti Hambardzumyan, was the first Armenian political formation of the 20th century.

Since the establishment of our Foundation in 2007, we are working to continue the legacy of Hrant Dink in the field of human rights and democratization, history, Armenia-Turkey relations, education, culture and arts. Amongst others, the normalization and development of Turkey’s relations with Armenia is one of the main objectives of the Foundation. We are keen on working on the elimination of the physical and mental barriers existing between the people of two countries.

Deep-seated insecurities characterize our society today. Our images of the world, our moral values and our traditional structures of knowledge have been shattered and the political euphoria of the years 1989–1990 has vanished. This applies in equal measure to the alleged triumph of democracy and to the self-perception of ‘the West’ as the driver of progress and development. Geopolitical conflicts have further reinforced this sense of uncontrollable change.
