Sport and Global education

Sport and Global Education (SAGE) is a one week training course designed to empower youth workers, activists, coaches and trainers to use sport and physical activity to tackle social inclusion, inequality and human rights issues.

The training course seeks to strengthen the capacity of participants to use sport and physical activity as a means to explore global issues. It also seeks to increase their critical understanding of the link between sport and global issues.
The activities of this training course are designed to demonstrate adaptations of sporting activities which link to inequality, inclusion and human rights, to allow a space for youth workers to create their sports-based activities based on these issues, to discuss current issues in sport and how they relate to global issues and to highlight current sports-based projects which address these issues.

Training objectives
• Demonstrate adaptations of sporting activities which link to inequality, inclusion and human rights.
• Allow a space for youth workers to create their own sports-based activities exploring these issues.
• Discuss current issues in sport and how these issues relate to inequality, inclusion and human rights.
• Highlight current sports-based projects and initiatives addressing these issues.

Methodologies
The training programme will consist of sports based activities and discussions which are heavily influenced by the model of experiential learning. Participants will have the opportunity to learn adaptations to sporting activities and how to use these adaptations to tackle and discuss social issues. Workshops will cater for all learning styles to make sure all participants get the most out of the training course.

How we will work

This training will be very interactive and participatory. To make the learning as rich as possible we would like the participants to share their own ideas and experience with the group. Due to the spectacular location of the program we will be trying to utilise the outdoors as much as possible. Therefore you need to bring comfortable sports or outdoor gear.

Venue
Castle Saunderson is an international scout centre situated near Belturbet, County Cavan. First opened in 2012, the 34 acre site contains indoor accommodation and camping facilities. It is ideal for outdoor activities and nature-based learning. The spacious indoor accommodation contains dorm rooms, a large kitchen, 4 meeting.rooms and spacious living areas.

Travel - How to get there?
Participants will arrive at Dublin airport and take the no. 30 bus (Donegal) to Butlersbridge.
This bus trip is about 2hrs in duration. They will then be collected and brought to Castle Saunderson by a 10 minute car journey.
The training will begin on 16th of April at midday and will finish on the morning of April 23rd
