Civil engagement on the local level: which ingredients have to come together in order to create a win-win situation for all sides? How do local initiatives influence the policies of the local government, how do grass-roots initiatives convince their environment of their ideas and how can the government draw the most benefit for all out of these initiatives?
In Berlin, in many areas, a wide variety of different people live together. All of them have ideas, bring forward different backgrounds; some of them strive to influence their immediate environment. Does this have to be conceived as a threat, or can it rather be a chance?
This seminar shall look into different initiatives and NGOs in Berlin in order to find answers to the above questions. Also the different backgrounds of the participants themselves will deliver ample subjects for discussions within the group. In addition there shall be some units about journalistic work in general. While in Berlin, during the seminar, the participants are expected to complete an article covering a topic within the general field of this seminar.
Eligibility
This seminar is open to young journalists from Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia.
Requirements for participation:
Working as a journalist in newspaper, agency or online.
Working knowledge of the Russian language. Knowledge of the English language could be an advantage.
Costs
The trip to Berlin takes place individually or in groups from the respective countries. The type of transportation (plane, train, bus) is agreed between participants and organizers.
Accommodation in Berlin will be in 2-3 bed-rooms.
Interested applicants please send two documents (in Russian, English or German language):
a current resume (including their knowledge of languages)
a letter of motivation for participation in the seminar not longer than one page (including mail addresses of two reference persons from the field of journalism).
