English Summer Camp
In the summer of 2015 the British Council Armenia in partnership with UWC Dilijan and the IDeA Foundation will be organising two English Summer Camps – one for young learners of 10 to12 and one for learners of 13 to 15 in June-July interval.
The Summer Camps are designed and developed to provide the participants with an equal opportunity to:
develop their English language skills;
learn about other nations’ cultures and traditions;
build new life-skills and friendships; and
become more self-confiden
through regular English lessons as well as engaging and interactive activities, workshops, excursions and meetings with non-local guest speakers and representatives from different embassies.
The camp will be run fully in English.
The Camps’ programmes are tailored and graded to the age groups defined above and include the following:
1. English Lessons (morning sessions): which are designed by the British Council that has more than 70 years of teaching experience and will be tailored to the needs of the participants. During the camp period, the participants will receive 42 hours (3 hours per day) of English lessons which will be delivered through dynamic, interactive, project-based and student-centered teaching methods by qualified and trained British Council English language teachers.
2. Workshops (afternoon sessions):focusing on everyday skills children and young adults need to develop: 1) independence and self-awareness; 2) confidence in dealing with new people and situations; 3) ability to make friends, establish contact and respect people with different backgrounds; 4) sense of responsibility for their duties and actions; 5) communication skills to present themselves effectively in a variety of different contexts; and 6) intercultural awareness and competence.
3. Culture Awareness Sessions (afternoon sessions):each day of the camp will be dedicated to one country during which children will learn about the culture and traditions of that country. By the end of the camp, participants will prepare culture-themed posters of the selected countries which they will present on the last day of the camp.
4. Recreational Activities (evening sessions): which include a wide range of sporting, creative and artistic activities such as treasure hunt, movie sessions, and talent nights to allow the participants to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. There will also be a series of lectures by guests as well as excursions in the vicinity.
